Building a new digital platform for THEON International

One platform. Many audiences. Our kind of challenge

One platform. Many audiences. Our kind of challenge

THEON is a leading global Defense Optronics Group. It develops and manufactures cutting-edge night vision and thermal imaging systems for Defense and Security applications with a global footprint. THEON GROUP started its operations in 1997 in Greece and today occupies a leading role in the sector thanks to its international presence through subsidiaries and production facilities in Greece, Cyprus, Germany, the Baltics, the United States, the Gulf States, Switzerland, Denmark, Belgium, Singapore and South Korea. THEON GROUP has more than 300,000 systems in service with Armed and Special Forces in 73 countries around the world, 26 of which are NATO countries. In 2025, the company won the largest single procurement tender of Night Vision Goggles in the history of a European NATO member, for over 100,000 NVGs to the Belgian and German Armed Forces, valued at ~€1 billion. THEON INTERNATIONAL PLC has been listed on Euronext Amsterdam (AMS: THEON) since February 2024.

As a global leader in defense optronics, THEON operates across two primary product categories: man-portable systems for individual soldiers and special operations forces, and platform-based optronics integrated into vehicles, vessels and aircraft. When THEON decided to invest in a new digital platform, the challenge was clear: one website needed to serve governments, military procurement teams, strategic partners and top engineering talent, each with very different expectations. Significa was brought in to deliver exactly that.

Seven stakeholder groups. One coherent platform

Seven stakeholder groups. One coherent platform

We started where every good project starts, by listening. Interviews across seven internal groups, from the CTO and Deputy CEO to HR, finance and communications, gave us a clear picture of what the platform needed to do and for whom.

THEON is not a simple product company. The new information architecture reflects that: each audience finds what they need without wading through content meant for someone else. Products sit alongside ESG commitments and employer branding, all within a single experience that feels intentional rather than assembled.

Innovative defense technology, matched by state of the art digital technology

Innovative defense technology, matched by state of the art digital technology

THEON builds defense technology of the highest standards. This characteristic shaped every design decision. The brief called for a visual identity that communicates precision and innovation, the way a high-tech engineering company should present itself, while fully embracing its defense-industry identity.

The result is a dual visual language. Product sections carry a darker, more immersive feel, built around video, technical depth and product exploration. Corporate areas shift to a lighter, more structured tone. Shared brand elements drawn from THEON's own identity — patterns inspired by the theta (Θ) symbol in its logo, a consistent color palette and subtle textures — hold the two directions together into one platform.

From Design Strategy to Code Architecture

From Design Strategy to Code Architecture

For an organization with the scale and complexity of THEON, front-end development isn't just about "translating" a design into functional code. It's pure engineering. We opted for a component-driven approach, breaking down a highly sophisticated interface into autonomous, reusable units of code.

The real shift in our process came through a token-driven system. In practice, we took every design decision, from spacing and typography to color logic, and transformed it into a shared "language" that runs through the entire codebase. This automated workflow eliminated redundant iterations and allowed us to deliver a perfectly consistent platform, ready to scale alongside the Group. We didn't just build a website; we engineered an infrastructure capable of meeting the rigorous demands of a publicly listed company.

Content managed once. Consistent everywhere

Content managed once. Consistent everywhere

The platform was built on a headless architecture with a rendering layer designed around a simple editorial principle: content that appears in multiple places lives in one place. Update it once, and it propagates across the site.

A workflow change that proved its value: giving the back-end team developer access to the Figma files. Seeing component variations, optional fields and content limits directly in the design removed a layer of back-and-forth that would otherwise have slowed the build at every turn.

A platform that works for every audience it serves

The new theon.com reflects what the platform was built to do: bring together a wide range of audiences, from defense procurement specialists and engineering talent to strategic partners and sustainability stakeholders, within a single, coherent digital experience. The architecture is built to scale as THEON GROUP grows, serving as the digital foundation for the Group's continued expansion.
